Through our ongoing research, our skilled teams of specialized caregivers and investigators can apply the most current findings from clinical trials that may advance the recovery process for our patients. We are not only focused on our patients' future-we are also focused on advancing the future of rehabilitation care.

Research Programs are constantly changing as data collection is completed for some studies and new studies are introduced. The primary areas of study include protocols that investigate the diagnosis, treatment and outcomes related to neurological disease or injury. We currently have research studies in the areas of:

Remarkable partnerships, ongoing patient benefits

Our dedication to research enables us to provide cutting-edge therapy as well as evidence-based approaches to recovery. We train our therapists, nurses and physicians in the latest and proven techniques. Our current participation in the "LEAPS" trial, which compares two different treatments to improve walking after stroke, is just one example of our focus on providing evidence to support the use of new and innovative treatments. The "LEAPS" project received the largest amount of funding ever awarded by the National Institutes of Health in the area of Rehabilitation Research.

We participate in research studies devoted to all levels of care throughout the recovery process. We give our patients the unique opportunity to participate in research trials. All inpatient and outpatient admissions to any of our Brooks facilities are given the opportunity to be contacted for potential enrollment in current or future research studies for which they may qualify.

The Brooks Center for Rehabilitation Studies in Collaboration with the University of Florida and Brooks Rehabilitation partner with academic institutions such as the University of North Florida (UNF), University of Florida (UF) and Duke University, as well as local medical institutions such as Shands Jacksonville, Mayo Clinic and Veterans Administration. The Brooks Center is actively involved in training our therapists to participate in nationally recognized specialty models of care, such as the Christopher Reeve Spinal Cord Injury Foundation.
