Comparison of Three Exercise Approaches for Treatment for Low Back Pain & Suspected Lumbar Instability

Home > - Research > -Innovations > 999

Brooks Rehabilitation outpatient sites have become involved in a study comparing three different exercise approaches for low back pain. The study will compare three different forms of lumbar stabilization: local stabilization, co-contracting stabilization and therapist selected/intuition stabilization. It will also compare the outcomes of those who meet the Hicks et. al. classification of instability with those who did not. The goal of the study is to positively identify physical and patient history characteristics associated with instability, specifically for patients who improve in a supervised spine stability exercise program.

Robert Fleming, PT, DPT, OCS, Director of Rehabilitation from Ellis Hospital, and Chad Cook, PT, Ph.D., MBA, OCS, Assistant Professor and Director of Outcomes Research for the Department of Surgery at Duke University are the Principal Investigators for this study. Marrow Burnette of the Riverside Clinic, Dawn Rosado from Brooks Health & Fitness and Jessica Clouthier of the Monument Clinic are the Brooks Physical therapists who are involved in this study.

Brooks outpatient sites are enrolling patients now. If you would like more information please call Jodi Morgan, Clinical Research Liaison at (904) 306-8987.
